1 Timothy. 4:7-8
But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profits us little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is in Christ, and of that which is to come.
Here the Apostle Paul tells us that we need to treat this life like it is an exercise, and that means regular practice. A few years ago I determined to get fitter and bought a bicycle. Now I had not ridden a bike for about thirty years. After that time I found the seat was uncomfortable, I found the smallest hill was too steep for me to climb. I persevered, within a couple of months I was riding the bike all the way, and cycling up the small hills without a lot of effort.
Now I'm learning how to be holy because it says in the Bible 1 Peter 15-16 that I should be holy as God is holy. Let me remind you again that holiness means separation for the purpose of God. The truth is simple, our Lord Jesus gave us teaching in the sermon on the mount Matthew ch 5, 6,and 7. Also Luke ch 6.
He also gave us other instructions how we should behave in the many parables.
If we apply this teaching in our lives, we will gradually change our lives so that God’s will shall be done, by what we do and say, and how we behave with other people.
1 John 2:5 But whoso keeps his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. (Psalm 9:10)
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. (Psalm 9:10)
Prayer: Thank you our loving Heavenly Father for showing us again that we should exercise ourselves in godliness that your will be done and your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
