Getting to Know the Holy Spirit by David Wilkerson
Walk in the Spirit.
Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
We all have a continual battle against our old sinful nature which Paul refers to as the flesh. The Apostle says to us in our text, that if we walk in the Spirit we will not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Meaning if we walk in the Spirit we will not give way to sin. This word walk, means we have to do our part and make the effort, it does not mean sitting back and waiting for God to do something.
To crucify means to put to death our sinful nature and practise the spiritual nature every day. This will not be easy but we will be fighting the good fight with all our might as that old hymn says. If we belong to Christ then according to Paul the Apostle, this is what we should be doing and it is not an option.
Paul says this: Galatians 2 :20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
If you are serious about your commitment as a Christian, then you can repeat these same words of Paul and with determination, and with the Grace of God, start practising the fruit of the Holy Spirit to become more like Lord Jesus our Master and Savior.
Prayer:
Thank you our loving Heavenly Father, I pray that my life will be crucified in every way as I walk in newness of life that you will be glorified in all that I say and do. That your will be done and your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
