4th January Back to the Bible daily by disciple John
Revelation 2:4 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Repentance is not a once only action, but a continual process, as God convicts us that we have sinned. If we do not repent the warning is that our lamp stand will be taken away, which must mean we will be in the darkness again. That is the place where Satan rules.
There are a number of verses in the New Testament that tell us to examine ourselves and one verse that is very important to remember. It occurs during the Apostle Paul's comments about behaviour during the Breaking of Bread/ communion service Corinthians 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. We should make it our practice to obey the ten commandments and the commandments of Lord Jesus. If we should break the commandments we should confess our sin to the advocate Lord Jesus Christ 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Don't hold on to old sin we have not repented of.
What great news this is. We should continually be praising and thanking our God with enthusiasm and joy.
Prayer: Thank you our loving Heavenly Father for showing us you still give further opportunities for us to get our lives right for you, that your will be done and your kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
